Legacy Moms was born out of a small group of women who met in Kym Carter’s living room once a month to talk about parenting issues from a biblical perspective. Having witnessed and experienced first-hand the result of parenting to the extreme: both extreme legalism and extreme permissiveness, Kym realized early on in her parenting journey that there was a healthier way, a biblical way to parent. She developed a great passion for moms and for parenting because she understood that it is a mom’s greatest privilege and responsibility to pass on a legacy to her children that is healthy, balanced, and consistent with the word of God. Kym started the moms’ group to share her passion and equip other moms with biblical principles to apply to the everyday struggles of motherhood.
Along the way, Kym and the rest of the women realized they were becoming better wives, better moms, and they were becoming the women God called them to be. They realized that having monthly accountability and encouragement from moms who shared their passion was crucial in that process. After many years, the group continued to grow, but as room became limited Kym started to feel that maybe it was time to call it quits and that perhaps the group had run its course.
After much prayer, God made it clear to both Kym and her husband Sam that not only was it not over, it was just beginning! In the summer of 2005, Kym met with her longtime friend and accountability partner, Michele Richardson. Kym told Michele that she felt God was calling her to expand the ministry so that women from all walks of life, from all different denominations and backgrounds could be involved. Michele had also been sensing that God was calling her to a new ministry. Kym and Michele committed to pray about it for six months and see if this was really something God was calling them to do.
From there, it has been quite an adventure! Things began to just “fall” into place (of course, it was all in God’s hands all along). By the end of 2005, 20 of the women who had been involved in Kym’s group answered the call to become part of the ministry and Legacy Moms was born! The first meeting was held in January, 2006 and it has been a blessing and a privilege to have served hundreds of women from the DFW area, and over a thousand who interact with us online world-wide. Legacy Moms was also honored by the Texas Rangers and Starbucks as a community MVP for service to the community.
Legacy Moms’ mission is to educate, equip, and encourage women to be Godly mothers and our vision is to create a lasting legacy of Christ-centered living for our children and grandchildren. We have expanded our mission and vision beyond DFW through our Facebook community, which currently has over 1400 moms who have “liked” us, and speaking engagements and events throughout the state of Texas. We are currently working on ways to reach even more women!
Kym Carter is a dynamic and engaging speaker who has a passion for families and for God’s word. She is motivated and inspired to use her gifts of speaking and encouraging by seeing how a relationship with Christ can heal a hurting person and by seeing families literally transformed by the power of God. Through her solid biblical teaching, humor, and by transparently sharing stories from her own life, Kym encourages and inspires women to embrace who they are in Christ and who God has called them to be. Kym is President and Co-Founder of Legacy Moms, a non-profit ministry founded in 2006. Kym has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Pepperdine University, with a minor in sociology emphasizing marriage, family dynamics and inter-personal relationships. Kym has worked as a television producer, writer and on-camera talent, but then she found her “true calling”: being a mom! She lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with her husband Sam and their three children. Kym and Sam are members of Grace Point Church in Coppell, Texas, and have taught parenting classes and seminars for more than 16 years at some of the largest churches in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, led a “Young Adults” Sunday School class, various small groups and are often requested to be guest speakers in a variety of venues. Kym is also a popular speaker at women’s groups, retreats and ministry events.
Legacy Moms, Inc. exists to educate, equip and encourage women to be godly mothers.
These core values drive everything we do at Legacy Moms
We believe that women are called to pass on Biblical truth from one generation to the next. (Titus 2:3-5, Deuteronomy 6:4-9)
We believe that by educating, equipping and encouraging mothers, they will be inspired to embrace their calling and be intentional with their parenting, so that God can fulfill His purpose in their lives. (Philippians 1:6, Proverbs 31:25-31)
We believe that a mother, who learns to love God first and obey His word, will build a Godly heritage for her children and for many generations to come. (Exodus 20:6, Psalm 78:4-8)
“…we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD. We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did. For he issued his decree to Jacob; he gave his law to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them– even the children not yet born– that they in turn might teach their children. So each generation can set its hope anew on God, remembering his glorious miracles and obeying his commands. Then they will not be like their ancestors– stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.”
Statement of Faith
We believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit, and therefore the source of all Truth and guidance for living a Christian life.
We believe Jesus Christ was born to a virgin, lived a sinless life, and was the perfect sacrifice when He paid the penalty for the sins of every person on the cross. He arose after three days and overcame sin and provided salvation to anyone who believes in Him, and will return again.
We believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, which are one God. We believe God is the Creator and rules over all creation. We believe man was created in the image of God, yet because of the original sin of Adam is born a sinner and separated from God. We believe in the person and the work of the Holy Spirit to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation and provides us with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance and doing what is right.
We believe that salvation is a free gift and cannot be earned through good works, and that salvation is secured for eternity at the moment a person receives the gift of forgiveness and accepts Jesus Christ through faith.
